District Camp

1st Woodcutts join District Camp

Naomi Booth :: Wednesday 31st May 2023

Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts joined groups from East Dorset District at Buddens Campsite near Bere Regis for the first bank holiday weekend in May.Cubs and Scouts arrived on Saturday morning and set up their own tents before having an afternoon on the climbing tower and pothole hill.On Sunday, Squirrels and Beavers joined us for St George's day celebration which had to be moved into the marquee due to a huge downpour. The weather cleared in time for the Squirrels and Beavers to try out fencing, fire lighting, the climbing tower and craft activities before their campfire. The Cubs and Scouts tried archery, axe throwing, air rifles and zorbing. After lunch, they tried different types of crafts including tie-die t-shirts and then after tea when the Squirrels and Beavers had left it was time for their campfire.The last morning, while the camp leaders and parents took down the marquee and tents, the Cubs and Scouts went to the water and tried paddle boarding, kayaking and finished the day with some backwoods cooking.

Remembrance Parade

Message from Skip John Curtis

Naomi Booth :: Wednesday 23rd November 2022

A big thank you to all of the young people who came to the Remembrance parade, you were so smartly turned out, it was great to see our newest section join us. Our Squirrels appear so small, but nonetheless very enthusiastic. I was so proud to be leading you up the High Street. (about a 95% turn out, 133 on parade). The standard bearers were exemplary, best lower before and raise after the 2 minutes silence ever. I'm so sorry that some of you were unwell, we are glad to hear that you are all recovered, my thanks to all of the adults who tended to the casualties. Thanks also to you the parents for your support with this event.On a personal note I was so proud to have two of my Grandchildren laying the Scout Groups wreath with me today, my forever family memory.

Fireworks Thanks

From or 20th Spectacular

Naomi Booth :: Wednesday 23rd November 2022

Thank you to everyone who supported our 20th Firework Spectacular - we did indeed have a spectacular evening and raised an amazing £8500 which goes towards the maintenance of our HQ and activities and further funds were raised for Sixpenny Handley First School & Nursery and the Skate Park project. Huge thanks to Clarkes Butchers and Budgens Sixpenny Handley for selling tickets and to Steve and Lee at the campsite for kindly allowing us to use the field for the weekend, without their support there would be no firework spectacular and the village would not benefit from the fantastic event and the significant amount raised for village groups and charities over the 20 years.
