The sky over Sixpenny Handley is set to be filled once again with world-class pyrotechnics, as the annual Firework Spectacular returns on Saturday 2nd November. The display, now in it's 22nd year, has grown to be the biggest and best in the area. Organised by 1st Woodcutts Scouts, the display combines the very best of local food and drinks with two breathtaking pyrotechnic displays. Rob Easton, Scout Leader at 1st Woodcutts and part of the Firework Spectacular team, commented 'we are very lucky to have an amazing group of volunteers with a broad range of skills. It means we can put on a fantastic evening with food and entertainment that is hard to beat. For example, the cider served on the bar is from award-winning Cranborne Chase Cider, founded by Bill Meaden, one of our former Scouts. The burgers and sausages on the BBQ are from the local butchers, Clarkes and Sons, and Steve and Lee Judd at Church Farm Campsite generously allow us the use of the field, which is the perfect setting for the display'.
The evening starts at 6.30pm with a quieter display for younger children. The main display starts at 7.30pm and includes brand-new effects for 2024. For those wishing to grab food and drink before the display starts, the arena is open from 5.30pm. Rob continues 'the display really is something else and every year we are approached by people visiting for the first time saying it is the best display they have ever seen. They are amazed that a small community in Dorset puts on a display rivalling those in large towns and cities. The ticket is for the whole evening, so people get to enjoy two displays for the price of one elsewhere'.
