For over a decade, the members of 1st Woodcutts Scout Group have enjoyed their annual May Bank Holiday Camp. Now established as one of the largest groups in the area, this would see up to 200 people enjoy a long weekend of fun, friendship and adventure.
The group were due to undertake this year's camp in the New Forest, but the restrictions on group meetings meant this was not possible. However, the leadership team have been working hard and have put together the groups first-ever virtual camp. This will see members from all sections, with ages ranging between 6 and 18 years old, camp out at home. This might be in the garden, or making a den in the house. During the virtual camp, activities and tasks will be posted online and all members will be joining together on the Saturday evening for a virtual campfire and online quiz.
John Curtis, Group Scout Leader at 1st Woodcutts, commented 'As a group, we have been serving the young people of Sixpenny Handley and the surrounding area for over 60 years. We realised that at this time, perhaps more than ever, our community needs the friendship and support that Scouting provides. As well as the Virtual Camp, each section has been continuing a weekly programme of activities with their members and this has seen challenges as diverse as astronomy, photography, history and gardening completed by the young people'.
